Class Activity: Weaponization of Travel

While we all agree that travel, especially international travel, can be a major force for positivity through the sharing of ideas, cultural norms, and better understanding of society. This same power can also be used to prove a point or other nefarious reasons by limiting a citizen's ability to travel to a specific location. This reduction in economic infusion can hurt a destination in many different ways as exemplified on the cas es provided in the Destinations International white paper.. For this warm-up activity, we will take a deeper look at the lasting impacts of these travel bans / boycotts. After reviewing the white paper, please complete the following:

• Select one of the cases presented and succinctly paraphrase the facts of the cause that caused the travel ban
• In your opinion, did this travel ban / boycott hurt the group that it was meant to make a point to? Were others hurt by it as well?
• What would have been a different or better approach to bring the same exposure to the issue within the destination?
