CIVILEN 2405 - Computer Graphics for Civil Engineers Assignment
Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering
The Ohio State University, USA
PROJECT - BLOCKS LIBRARY (DOORS & WINDOWS)
1) Go to Carmen and download the file needed for this portion of the project, "PROJECT-8-BlocksLibrary.dwg". After you download the file rename the file. Change the file name from "PROJECT-8-BlocksLibrary.dwg" to "initials-PROJECT-8-BlocksLibrary.dwg'".
2) Start AutoCAD by double clicking on the AutoCAD icon on your computer's desktop.
3) Open the renamed drawing (initials-PROJECT-8-BlocksLibrary.dwg) that you just downloaded from Carmen:
Pick the File option from the menu bar then pick Open.
In the Select File dialogue box set the following:
Files of type: Drawing (*.dwg)
Look in: U: drive CIVILEN-2405 folder
File Name: initials-PROJECT-8-BlocksLibrary.dwg
Then pick the Open button.
4) Create Blocks:
4) Create Blocks:
a) Create a block out of each object using the BLOCK command. Name the block the same as the text label. You will create a total of nine blocks with the following names: DOOR-32L, DOOR-32R, DOOR-36L, DOOR-36R, DOOR-BIFOLD, DOOR-GARAGE, DOOR-BYPASS, WINDIW-42 and WINDOW-72. (Note: Do not include the text labels or "Base Point" notes in the blocks.)
b) These are the four basic steps to creating a block:
i) Name the block.
ii) Pick the "Base Point" as indicated in the drawing file.
iii) Select the Objects - Pick all parts of the object to be included in the block. (Remember do not include the text label or "Base Point" note in the block.)
iv) Set the "Retain" option under the Select objects button. (Note: The "Retain" option is not used in every situation. However in this situation, we do not want the selected door and window objects to be converted to a block just in case you decide to make changes to them in the future.)
c) Repeat these four steps for each of the nine blocks.
5) Save to your (U:) drive in the computer lab or (C:) drive if working on your home computer in your "CIVILEN-2405" folder (and to your Flash Drive as a backup):
a) In the Quick Access Toolbar pick the Save button.
b) Since you have already saved this file to the U: drive at the beginning of this project, AutoCAD will now perform a "Quick Save". AutoCAD will save the drawing without asking any questions.
6) Continue with Project on the following page.
PROJECT CONTINUED - HOUSE PLAN
1) Go to Carmen and download the file needed for this portion of the project, PROJECT-8-HousePlan.dwg". After you download the file rename the file. Change the file name from 'PROJECT-8-HousePlan.dwg" to "initials-PROJECT-8-HousePlan.dwg".
2) Start AutoCAD by double clicking on the AutoCAD icon on your computer's desktop.
3) Open the renamed drawing (initials-PROJECT-8-HousePlan.dwg) that you just downloaded from Carmen:
Pick the File option from the menu bar then pick Open.
In the Select File dialogue box set the following:
Files of type: Drawing (*.dwg)
Look in: U: drive CIVILEN-2405 folder
File Name: initials-PROJECT-8-HousePlan.dwg
Then pick the Open button.
(Note: Refer to the following page to see the completed project.
4) Freeze (do not delete) the following existing layers (The objects on these layers will be used in a future project):
Dimensions A-DIMENSIONS
Roof A-ROOF
Room Names A-ROOM-NAMES
Text Notes A-TEXT
5) Use the following existing layers to complete the project (You do not need to create new layers for this project):
Kitchen appliances A-APPLIANCES
Doors A-DOORS
Floor hatch patterns A-FLOOR-PATTERNS
Plumbing fixtures A-PLUMBING-FIXTURES
Windows A-WINDOWS
6) No sheet required:
a) This project does not require the use of a sheet and border. Please do NOT insert your 11x17 Template File into this project. The completed project will be just the House Plan only.
7) Insert Blocks:
a) Using Design Center, insert Door and Window blocks from the 'Door and Window Symbols Library" that you created earlier in Initials-PROJECT-8-BlocksLibrary.dwg". Insert the doors onto the A-DOORS layer and the windows onto the A-WINDOWS layer.
b) Please DO NOT explode the blocks.
8) Kitchen and Bath Layout:
a) Using Design Center Insert plumbing fixture and appliance blocks into your drawing. The needed blocks can be found in "House Designer.dwg" and in "Kitchens.dwg". Use the following blocks from the "House Dvsigner.dwg" drawing: BathTub-26x60in, Faucet-Bathroom Top, Sink-Oval Top and Toilet-top. Use the following blocks from the "Kltchens.dwg" drawing: Faucet-single handle top, Range-Oven-30 in top, Refrigerator-2 door-36 in top and Sink-double-36 in top.
b) The toilet, tub, bathroom sink, kitchen sink, and faucets should be placed on the A-PLUMBING-FIXTURES layer. The stove and refrigerator should be placed on the A-APPLIANCES layer.
(Note: You will need to scale the bathroom sink down by a scale factor of .75 in order for it to fit properly.)
c) Please DO NOT explode the blocks.
9) Floor Finish Patterns:
a) Use the HATCH command to create the floor finish patterns as indicated on the plan handout. Place all of the hatch patterns on the A-FLOOR-PATTERNS layer. Remember to use the "Set Origin" option to help center or locate start points for your hatch patterns.
b) The front foyer uses a -User Defined" hatch with a "Spacing" of 4".
c) The kitchen uses a "User Defined" hatch with a "Spacing" of 8".
Note: You may need to use the "Remove Boundaries" option ("Remove" is in the Hatch Creation tab in the "Boundaries" panel on the far left) to remove the boundaries created by the objects in the Kitchen Stove. Otherwise, the burners in the stove may get hatched as well.
d) The bathroom uses a "Predefined" hatch called "HONEY" with a "Scale" of 12.
e) The garage, front porch, and step use a -Predefined" hatch called "AR-SAND" with a "Scale" of 4.
10) Save to your (U:) drive in your 'CIVILEN-2405" folder (and to your Flash Drive as a backup):
a) In the Quick Access Toolbar pick the Save button.
b) Since you have already saved this file to the U: drive at the beginning of this project, AutoCAD will now perform a "Quick Save". AutoCAD will save the drawing without asking any questions.
11) Pick the Application Button in the upper left corner then pick Close.
12) This is the end of Project.
Note - Please this needs to be done in auto cad 2018, half of the drawing already done. The instructions are included too step by step.
