SMART Monotoring
Task 1: Monitoring of Tunnel (During construction and maintenance)
Write your report including the questions below. Make sure to use the attached report format.
Q1. Discuss the predicted behavior during construction and maintenance of two rings by the ram load and the overburden pressure with figure (Front view or 3D view).
Q2. Establish a monitoring period and provide the reason. If the period setting is related to the ground, please describe in detail.
Q3. Select at least two monitoring systems from the conventional monitoring techniques and SMART monitoring techniques, respectively, and provide the reason for the selection. Determine if the selected sensor can cover the range of the tunnel movement with sensor's parameter.
Q4. Design the selected sensors in the figure of segment linings and provide the behaviour each sensor can detect. Make a monitoring plan based on the monitoring period as well. (In the case of long-term monitoring, provide the required conditions and how to monitor it. Station in Figure 4 can be used as well.)
Q5. Provide how to compare the different monitoring results and explain how the different monitoring techniques complement each other.
Q6. Explain the expected monitoring results by comparing them with figures that you provide in Q1.
Q7. If the two segments in Figure 3c and 3d have different results, explain the reason. Explain the long term behaviour of tunnel.
Q8. What can the monitoring results be compared to determine the stability? Find the stability criterion of segment lining and explain how to compare it with the monitoring results.
Q9. References should be included in the contents of manuscript, if you refer those. The references are appropriately written in ‘Reference' section as well.
Task 2: Monitoring of Pisa Tower
(During maintenance)
Q1. Discuss the reason of the Pisa tower's movement with figure and which structural behaviour can occur due to the movement. (Front view or 3D view). Analyse the cause of the tilting of Pisa tower through the correlation between the ground and the shallow foundation.
Q2. Select at least two monitoring systems from the conventional monitoring techniques and SMART monitoring techniques, respectively, and provide the reason for the selection. Determine if the selected sensor can cover the range of the Pisa tower's movement with sensor's parameter.
Q3. Design the selected sensors in the figure of the Pisa tower and provide the behaviour each sensor can detect.
Q4. Provide how to compare the different monitoring results and explain how the different monitoring techniques complement each other.
Q5. What can the monitoring results be compared to determine the stability? Find the stability criterion of the tower structure and explain how to compare it with the monitoring results.
Q6. Propose reinforcing systems for the stability of the Pisa tower.
Q7. References should be included in the contents of manuscript, if you refer those. The references are appropriately written in ‘Reference' section as well.
