Suppose you have a Newtonian fluid flowing in a circular tube with a certain volume flow rate, Q. There is a branch in the tube where it divides into two circular tubes. From the branch point in the tube to the outlet ends of the two smaller tubes the pressure drop, ΔP, is the same in each tube, but one of the two smaller tubes is twice as long as the other. What must the ratio of the radii of the two smaller tubes be so that the flow rate in each smaller tube is equal (Q/2)? Which tube is narrower, the longer or the shorter?
