ASSIGNMENT - PREPARING A TENDER ESTIMATE
Objective
To assess student understanding of tender estimating and their ability to prepare a tender estimate by pricing a schedule of quantities and applying overheads and profit.
Scope
Your company has been invited to tender for the proposed Astro Environment Project. After reviewing the tender documents and discussing the tender with Management, the company decides to accept the invitation and provide a tender offer. You are the Estimator, therefore it is your responsibility to calculate the most economical cost for the project.
This Astro Environment project will be used for Assignment 1 and 2. Assignment 1 consists of the following four tasks. The information created in this assignment will be further developed in Assignment 2.
Task 1 - Subcontractors
a) Review the tender documentation and prepare a list of all the trades required for the project.
b) Check tender documentation for any nominated subcontractors and list these subcontractors against the relevant trades.
Task 2 - Own Work
a) Using the pSoft template provided, measure and price the scheduled Carpentry/ Timber Partitions items for the office and toilet areas.
(Supply and Install of Insulation and Proprietary Toilet Partitions will be issued for tender to subcontractors.)
b) Using the pSoft template provided, measure and price the Plasterboard items in the office and amenities areas.
c) Using the pSoft template provided, measure and price the Ceilings in the office and amenities areas.
Task 3 - Preliminaries and General
a) Review the following information and calculate the P&G.
- The Project Manager has prepared a tender programme with a duration of 12 Months.
- Your manager advises that the project will need the following resources: 1 Project Manager - 25% of project duration
1 Site Manager - 100% of project duration
1 Quantity Surveyor - 50% of Project Duration
- Allow $15,000 for Scaffolding
- Site Accommodation should consist of:
1 Office
1 Meeting Room
1 Smoko Shed
1 Toilet block
Task 4 - Tender Summary
a) Put together a tender summary and insert costs of the trades above. (There will be blanks in your trade summary for the trades that are yet to be priced.)
b) Make an allowance for margin at the bottom of your trade summary with justification on why you have used the percentage chosen.
c) Provide a list all your assumptions/clarifications.
