This assignment will include:

Section 1: Design your own curriculum framework (500 words)

If you could create a new curriculum for your setting, what would it look like?

This section should be presented in the table attached. You are asked to indicate the values, principles, pedagogy and content you think a curriculum framework for young children should include. This is where you move away from the curriculum with which you work and think about what you value in a curriculum for the Early Years. What do you think is good practice? Be as creative and bold as you like.

This is a challenging task which asks you to critically explore your own philosophy of good practice in early learning and development, therefore there is no right or wrong answer. This encapsulates the demands of working at Master's level, synthesising your ideas from your reading and experience to develop your individual viewpoint and need to be confident in putting forward your ideas.

This section does not have to be referenced and you are not expected to break down your curriculum framework into the fine detail. You will only have the space to make some broad statements but that is what we are expecting.

Section 2: Write a rationale in which you justify the choices you made when developing your own curriculum framework. (2000 words)

Having identified the core components of your own curriculum framework in section 1, you now must justify your choices. Here, you are setting out your argument in support of your framework, critically analysing issues and providing evidence to support your choices which is well researched and referenced in line with Master's level expectations.

In other words, you are setting out to convince the assessor of the merits of your framework.

Cross reference to section 1 here but, where possible, do not repeat what is in your curriculum framework: you can signpost us to the relevant sections with page numbers or any other methods you have used to organise your work.

Section 3 How would your proposed curriculum ensure quality provision for children? (1500 words)

You will need to begin by defining quality; this will involve analysis of the different ways of approaching quality. This might include consideration of questions like who decides what quality looks like and how should it be measured, think about product versus process.

You then explain how your curriculum framework will achieve quality, referring to the literature.

When we read this assessment, it should be very clear what your informed view of good practice in early education looks like. However, this does not mean that the style will be informal. This should still be written in third person. You do not need to write in the first person to make a clear argument.

This is a good opportunity to show you can write concisely, choosing the most relevant aspects of provision to discuss.

• Begin by critically evaluating the term and principles of inclusive practice.

• Identify and analyse strategies for promoting inclusive practice. The word count is short so be selective and explore two or three key approaches teachers might use.

The word limits for each section are guidelines. However, if you keep within the approximate guidelines for each section, you will be confident that the balance of your work is appropriate.

There may be other issues you wish to include instead - please do; this list is not compulsory, it is simply a starting point.
