Case study: F.M. is a 48-year-old blind woman with diabetes, severe peripheral neuropathy, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and obesity. At present, she has a large abdominal wound, has an ostomy, and is bedridden. She is refusing to maintain her nothing-by-mouth status, taking a diet of Popsicles and candy. Her blood sugar levels are elevated. The goals of hospitalization include healing the wound enough to allow management at home.
