Question

COPD, also known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a common yet deadly disease that people over the age of 40 are at risk for. COPD is a respiratory condition that is categorized by the presence of both chronic bronchitis and emphysema in a patient (McCance, et al, 2019). COPD directly affects the lungs' ability to expand and the ventilation that takes place in order to adequately oxygenate the body and vital organs. Some signs and symptoms of COPD are chronic cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, fatigue, inability to take a deep breath and feeling as if you cannot breathe. Unfortunately, smoking is not the only cause of COPD in adults. Things such as sir pollution, environmental exposure and certain genetic mutations put people at an increased risk of developing this respiratory ailment (American Lung Association, 2023). There is a direct relationship between Mr. Browns's vital signs and his pre-existing condition of COPD. All vital signs provided point to the fact that Mr. Brown's body is attempting to compensate for the poor oxygenation taking place in his lungs with each breath that he is taking. He is attempting to breath fast than normal (26 Respiratory Rate) in order to increase.
