This chronic inflammation causes painful swelling, joint damage, deformity, and loss of function over time (CDC, 2020). In treating RA, it is essential to address the inflammatory response first. Controlling inflammation with medications such as NSAIDs, corticosteroids, or DMARDs can prevent joint damage, reduce pain, and improve the patient's quality of life. Managing inflammation provides immediate relief and slows disease progression, making it a priority before addressing the underlying autoimmune cause (NIAMS, 2020).
