Question

A 16-year-old male patient presents to the ER with fever, weakness, chronic cough, and shortness of breath. After reviewing the patient's history, he reports that he has been fighting a bad cold and sore throat for the last 6 weeks since school has begun. He appears cyanotic, his oxygen saturation is low, and auscultation reveals crackles in the lower lobes of the lungs. A full cardiovascular and laboratory workup is in the process of being completed when you receive a report identifying that the patient is positive for a streptococcal infection. Based on the given information, the patient is mostly likely to be diagnosed with.
