Your assignment is to:
1.Choose a health standard, i.e. physical activity, alcohol and drugs, mental health, stress, tobacco, safety, sexual behaviors etc.
2. Choose an age group, i.e. first grade, fifth grade, middle school, high school.
3. Describe in detail three teaching tools or activities you would use to teach this standard. Chapters 15 and 16 give age appropriate examples of these tools.
4.Common mistakes from students have been to list"I will lecture ... " as an activity.Your lecture is not an Activity for the class. Having an activity about the lecture is fine. But describe the activity in detail. Example, after discussing the importance of Physical Activity we will do outside and measure our resting heart rate and then after being active by doing.... we will measure your heart rate again. If you state you are going to teach/lecture a topic, describe in detail the activity component of the lesson. Ask yourself, "how am I going to measure the student's learning of this lesson?"
So now we have all these Health Statistics that are surprising if not shocking in the sheer number of children, teens and adults who are affected. What are you going to do about affecting change? You are the teacher. Health and Wellness for your students are your objectives. This assignment is all about how you would teach the different health goals and standards. The first two sections of your text give you health information. Section 3 and 4, Chapters 15 and 16, give examples of activities that will help the student to embrace, practice and learn these health goals and standards. The examples are developmentally appropriate for the age level of your students.Your assignment is to choose a health standard, i.e. physical activity, alcohol and drugs, mental health etc. Next choose an age group, i.e. first grade, fifth grade, high school. Your assignment is to outline three teaching tools or activities you would use to teach this standard. You are only limited by your imagination. Here are some suggestions. You could make a coloring worksheet for younger students, describe a poster to display in your room, plan a physical education activity to reinforce the message. I believe you will find examples in Chapters 15 and 16 helpful. Make sure you describe your activity in detail. If you are going to have a work sheet for your student, describe what ison the sheet and what the student will need to do. You do not have to actually produce the work sheet.
