Topic: Select a feature film, television series, presentation, documentary, or even heavily narrated video game with aspects of Ethical Leadership for you to evaluate and apply ethical leadership concepts and themes.
Applying concepts can come from Johnson, C. E. (2018). Meeting the ethical challenges of leadership: Casting light or shadow. (6th Ed.) and Kellerman, B. (2004). Bad leadership: What it is, how it happens, why it matters. Boston, MA: Harvard Business School Press
Question 1. Choose a character to evaluate in your media selection. Why do you think he/she is motivated to lead? What do you think he/she hoped to accomplish or set as initial goals in their leadership journey? Cite/discuss specific decision-making concepts from Meeting the ethical challenges of leadership: Casting light or shadow. to justify your explanation.
Question 2. Select a different character to evaluate in your narrative in order to consider his/her ethical use and/or unethical abuse of power. In your own words explain why you think he/she used power this way (types/bases, etc.). Where there specific shadow areas your character was susceptible to falling under and if so, why? Apply/discuss ethical leadership theories/concepts from readings to justify your explanation.
Question 3. Focus on a specific relationship in your media selection. How do you see elements of leader/follower - follower/leader dynamics at play? Are these dynamics ethical when you think back to our definition of leadership and what is means to be a courageous follower? Explain using concepts on ethical character from the book to justify your response.
Question 4. A transposed hero is a hero who experiences a status reversal (hero to villain, villain to hero, and sometimes back again). Can you provide examples of this type of status reversal in any character you might refer to as a hero or heroine in your media selection, in your personal experience, or from current events/news stories? Explain using concepts that explore some of the "bad leader" types from the book to justify your response.
Question 5. When you think about the faces of evil, do you see any evidence of evil-doing by anyone in your narrative? Which type of evil and what was the result? Do you see relevant behaviors in everyday examples of leadership that lead you to believe we are becoming more tolerant of evil leadership? Defend your response using concepts from readings and specific examples to support your claims.
