Children, Adolescents and Older Adults
1. Outline the exercise guidelines and recommendations for children and adolescents.
2. What considerations and precautions would you have when training a child/adolescent and how would you modify to ensure safe exercise, or which would be contraindications in which you would avoid certain activities.
3. List a few common medications that you may see with an older adult client. What are the affects of the medications on exercise?
4. Discuss the benefits of exercise on older adults (choose at least 3 benefits and the effects of exercise on that).
5. Outline a (FITT) ExRx for an older adult client. Consider how you might progress a client once they achieve your starting FITT outline.
6. Create a full-body training session for either an older adult OR a child. This should include an exercises that target each major muscle group.
a. You should explain why you selected this exercise - why is it appropriate for this type of client, if you have someone specific in mind you can program to that just include a little background to again demonstrate appropriateness of selections.
b. Briefly discuss considerations you would have while training this client (rest, hydration, communication, etc.) to ensure an appropriate training environment for this type of client.
