Question

A 6 year old child presents to clinic with complaint of "pink" eye. Mom reports the child had a runny nose and cough last week but got better. There is no fever or chills. He is eating, well and playing as normal. Eye discharge is cher, watery, and the eye is not "matted" together in the morning. There is no real pain other than the eye feeling scratchy at time. No history or eye trauma or foreign body exposure. On exam VIS are normal, Visual acuity in normal, there is a clear watery die prevent. and small preauricular lymph node is palpable. The remainder of exam is normal. How should the NP proceed?

• Diagnose bacterial conjunctivitis and treat with ophthalmic antibiotics

• Diagnose allergic conjunctivitis and treat with allergy eye drops

• Diagnose viral conjunctivitis and treat with symptomatic management

• Refer to ophthalmology for slit lamp exam
