Question

Chest pain is often very ambiguous and can have many different causes. This is why it is very important to thoroughly assess the client and their situation. You could use a pain scale rating to start with to see where your client is at pain wise (Jarvis & Eckhardt 2024). You will want to ask them to explain what they pain feels like. If someone is having a myocardial infarction, they might say that it feels like an elephant is stepping on their chest. Next, you will want to ask where exactly their pain is located. You might also want to ask if the pain is radiating anywhere else on their body. Another clarifying question would be to ask them to describe the quality of the pain. Is it sharp, stabbing, or dull.
