1. Acetic acid (CH3COOH) is one of the simplest carboxylic acids. It is an important chemical reagent and industrial chemical. Vinegar is dilute acetic acid, often produced by fermentation. The following is a reversible reaction:

CH3COOH ↔ H+ + CH3COO-

a. Write the set up you would use to calculate the Ka of this reaction.

b. Calculate the hydrogen ion concentration [H+] of a 0.1 M solution of acetic acid given that the dissociation constant of acetic acid is Ka = 1.8 x10-5. Work must be shown in order to earn credit.
