CHD 206 Children's Health and Safety

Research Paper Assignment

The purpose of the Research Paper Assignment:

Standard 5 states that early childhood candidates "know the essential concepts, inquiry tools and structure of content areas including academic subjects, and can identify resources to deepen their understanding.

Candidates use their own knowledge and other resources to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful, challenging curriculum that promotes comprehensive developmental and learning outcomes for every young child." The author of your textbook, Lynn R. Marotz, states that environmental factors can support and promote healthy outcomes for children; they are: "making nutritious food choices, participating in daily physical and recreational activities, getting 8 to 9 hours of uninterrupted nighttime sleep, having access to high-quality medical and dental care, reducing stress levels, and having friends and opportunities to form stable and meaningful relationships." She also mentions factors that can negatively affect children's health and safety; those are "exposure to chemicals, pollution, abuse, illness, obesity, prenatal alcohol exposure, sedentary lifestyles, poverty, acute stress, food insecurity, violence, or unhealthy dietary choices."
