Case Study 1
Eva is 21 years old and has a mild intellectual disability. She arrived from Croatia with her parents and older brother 10 years ago. She attends a Day Program 2 days a week and works in a coffee shop 2 days a week. She is very social and gets along with everyone and would like to live on her own one day. Recently her parents mentioned that there is another girl at the Day Program who is bullying her. The client is 19 years old and has Down Syndrome. She has called her names, stolen from her and even physically assaulted her. Eva's parents are becoming concerned about this, but are too afraid to say anything because they are worried about what will happen to Eva and her service.
1. There are a number of statutory requirements that case managers must abide by. Discuss one that might be relevant when working with Eva.
2. Provide one reason why it is important to ensure that the client participates in setting goals.

Case study 2
Anthea Lee was born in Beijing China in 1953. She immigrated to Australia in 1974 with her husband. Anthea worked as a teacher until she retired. She speaks English fluently. Her husband has passed away and she has been living alone in her own home in metropolitan Sydney since that time. However,she recently had a stroke which has left her with some weakness in her left side. This has also affected her speech and her memory.She is very determined to remain in her home and her son fully supports this decision. They are very committed to any plan that will see her return to a state of wellness again and functioning with support in her own home.

Assessment - Role Play Part A
Case Study 3
Dan Smith is 17 years old and has just served a 2-year sentence at a Youth Justice Centre. He is on release. A case management plan needs to be developed to assist Dan with integration to the community and resuming his education and training.
Issues:
• Currently living in a halfway house which is only available for the next two months.
• He has lost touch with friends and family
• His family refuse to support him financially
• Not employed
• At risk of re-using drugs and alcohol
You will form pairs and conduct a case management meeting in class. During this meeting, you will:
1. Facilitate information sharing with the client and establish an appropriate rapport
2. Identify and agree on roles, responsibilities, boundaries and service delivery
3. Determine and agree on needs and goals
4. Discuss the impact of legislative and statutory requirements on the client, agency and significant others (including privacy and confidentiality).
You will then complete the reflection sheet and submit to your teacher.
Assessment 2 Part B
You will be required to complete a case note following your meeting with the client on the reflection sheet.
