One of many reasons junk food consumption should be decreased is because of its addictive principles. Junk food has addictiveness that is comparable to drug addictions. This is explained by Dr. Gearhardt, the food and addiction science and treatment lab director at the University of Michigan. "It's this subset of highly processed foods that are engineered in a way that's so similar to how we create other addictive substances. These are the foods that can trigger a loss of control and compulsive, problematic behaviors that parallel what we see with alcohol and cigarettes." (O'Connor. P.1) The fact that these unhealthy foods have comparability to drugs is insane; Junk foods are foods the American people eat every day. Does it not terrify you to know that you could develop an addiction comparable to that of a nicotine addict for the Mcdonald's near your house? Junk food is dangerous, and understanding its addictiveness is a crucial step when learning to avoid it.
