We live in a society where marginalization is rampant and has become quite acceptable by most to the point of becoming "the norm!" Marginalization is a form of oppression and is the process of pushing groups or individuals with less social power to the margins of society (p. 26 in your textbook).
Choose a marginalized group that is a prime example of where power and privilege is abused in society today. Do not choose the same topic as your Campaign. See page 2 below for ideas and feel free to pick something that is not on the list. You can also use your textbook, it is also a good resource.
In essay format, introduce your marginalized group and explain how the dominant group with the power and privilege have a negative impact on the marginalized, non-dominant group. Research the unique characteristics of the marginalized group, the challenges they face because of marginalization, barriers they have to deal with to get help and what services and programs might they benefit from?
Using the information you have collected, reflect on the following; explain why and how situations like this are happening in today's society; is there justice for all people regardless of whether they have power and privilege or not? As we wrap up this course on diversity, how will you try to show diversity competence and encourage and teach others the importance of justice, equity, equality, fairness, kindness etc. to those who are marginalized?
