Organize the information you've found under the following general categories. How would it affect your company's operations?

1. Social and cultural climate:

a. Do the language, religion, or customs present any barriers to trade?

b. What are the characteristics of the labor force-highly educated? Uneducated but skilled crafts workers?

c. Does the country provide education to a large percentage of the populace (future work force)?

d. What is the public health situation? Is a generation of malnourished children being raised (e.g., North Korea)? Is the adult population decimated by HIV/AIDS (e.g., sub-Saharan Africa)? What are the implications for the future of
2. Economic infrastructure:

a. Communication: are telephone, fax, etc. services widely available?

b. Computer & internet: how widespread is computer use and internet availability?

How computer savvy is your prospective labor force?

c. Utilities: is electric power available everywhere? What about fuel for automobiles, heating, cooling, etc.?

d. Transportation: Are there well-maintained highways, trucking and railroad freight systems? Is there an international airport?

e. Currency: is the currency easily convertible? Does is float on the international currency market or is it controlled by a central bank or pegged to another currency (like the U.S. dollar?) Are there any other type of exchange controls imposed?

3. Political climate

a. Is the country politically stable?

b. Does it welcome foreign investment? Are any concessions available to foreign investors (tax, labor laws, environmental requirements, etc.)?

c. Is there widespread corruption in business and government?

d. Does the government impose any kind of trade restrictions (embargoes, quotas, tariffs)?

e. Is the country a member of any international trade organizations (WTO, NAFTA, CAFTA, etc.)?

f. Are there any outstanding loans to the World Bank or the IMF whose terms might affect business in that country?

4. Other factors:

a. Does this country possess an absolute or a comparative advantage in any area, e.g. cheap labor, natural resources?
