Select two social media platforms, one with which you are familiar, and another with which you are less familiar. Examples may include platforms, such as Facebook®, Twitter®, Instagram®, Pinterest®, Reddit®, LinkedIn®, or Spotify.
Register as a new user for each platform if you have not already done so, and use the platform to interact with others who have similar personal and professional interests.
Create a 8- to 10-slide presentation with an accompanying 350- to 700-word written summary in which you evaluate the interactions you witness on each platform.
Respond to the following in your presentation and speaker notes:
What are the characteristics of your selected chosen social media platforms? What audiences does the platform target or to whom does it appeal? Is the site easy to navigate and use?
What were some common behaviors of those you studied?
What type of content was posted? Was it original, re-posted?
After reviewing a couple of selected users of the platform, what was their frequency of posting?
Did any of those you studied use methods of deception? If so, what were they?
What were the goals or motivations? Why did people post what they posted?
If the platform offered a mechanism for feedback or other interaction, how much was there, and what type of feedback was it?
What is the etiquette on the platforms you chose? In other words, what would be considered normal and abnormal behavior?
Does the online community police itself? If so, how?
What is your opinion regarding why trolling takes place and is so commonplace?
