Assignment:

A lot of different techniques are used when trying to apprehend a criminal. One of these techniques used by investigative police is criminal profiling. "Criminal profiling refers to attempts to construct typical characteristics of certain types of criminals" (Hagan, 2012, pg.132). There are many advantages to using this technique such as, giving a clearer and more precise identification of a potential suspect. While there are advantages to using this technique, it can be flawed in its approach to identifying a criminal's personality and behavioral characteristics. In this paper we will discuss what criminal profiling entails, what data is useful to use when creating a profile, the disadvantages to using this technique, and a real-world example of a criminal profile.
