HSBC is one of the leading international universal banks in the world. Suppose you are a banking analyst and are asked to undertake research into one of the HSBC overseas subsidiaries in the year of 2021.

Following tasks:

1) Outline the main characteristics of the banking system of the subsidiary country (Indonesia HSBC subsidiary bank).

2) Discuss one strategy that digital banks, such as Revolut, Monzo, Starling, Klarna etc. used to enter into the banking industry and compete with traditional banks (e.g., HSBC).

3) Analyse the profitability and credit risk of the subsidiary (indosia subsidiary bank of HSBC) in the year of 2021 and compare it with the profitability and credit risk of HSBC UK.

4) Identify trends in inflation rate in the country you have chosen over the years of 2017 and 2022 and explain how the inflation trend could have influenced the financial performance (i.e., profitability and credit risk) of the subsidiary (Indonesia subsidiary HSBC).
