Characteristics and Outcomes of Collaborative Teams

 Having a collaborative workforce in which all individuals come together to achieve a common goal is vital for all organizations. It is said that when an organization embraces a collaborative workforce, it is noticed that the organization becomes more successful. (Lukic,M. 2020).Organizations who embrace a collaborative workforce exercise strong teamwork skills and operate in a culture where collaboration is consistent and evidence in their everyday behaviors. There are many characteristics of a workforce that embraces a collaborative team, such as being generous, appreciative, listening to understand, giving and expecting trust, and being team-focused.

  • Generous- this is a desirable leadership characteristic. The collaborator is willing to take the first steps to assist areas even if they don't get noticed or praised.
  • Appreciative- this characteristic demonstrates that the collaborator can access sincere appreciation amongst all team members that have contributed, and they are not shy to give credit where due.
  • Listens to understand- This characteristic indicates that the collaborator can listen attentively to what is being said. However, more importantly, they can understand what is being relayed to them.
  • Gives and expects trust- This characteristic is vital to build successful teams since teams are built on safety and trust. A great collaborator helps create and maintain confidence in the environment for their team.

Creating a Collaborative Team Dynamic

Creating a collaborative team dynamic benefits an organization in more ways than one thinks. A collaborative team dynamic is a way to boost your organization's productivity. There are numerous ways to do this, such as sharing a vision, setting expectations early, capitalizing on strengths, and encouraging new ideas.

  • Sharing a vision- in regards to sharing a vision, every good team has a larger purpose for doing what they do. That is why it's essential to give your team a more significant reason than themselves to be excellent in what they do. (Campbell, S. 2017). In doing so, you're helping every member buying to the goal and inspiring them to be successful.
  • Setting expectations early- In many cases, employees might not understand how to work amongst a collaborative team like the one you're trying to create in the workforce. However, in many cases, employees might not understand how to work amongst a collaborative team such as the one you're trying to create in the workforce. (Campbell, S. 2017).However, it's essential that you set expectations for your team as early as possible; therefore, each team member knows exactly what is expected and how to perform amongst the team successfully.
  • Capitalizing on strengths- everyone has different weaknesses and strengths; therefore, when working in a team, finding the streets of each employee and noting them is vital. Additionally, highlighting each person's strengths to the rest of the team and making sure that each team member has an opportunity to use the strength to help achieve the common goal. (Campbell, S. 2017).Therefore, you can get the most out of your team, and they feel empowered to do their best.
  • Encouraging new ideas- collaborative team dynamics also include encouraging new ideas with your team members. (Campbell, S. 2017).Everyone in a team has a different view and different life experiences, which gives them creative intuition and assist in solving problems. Ensuring that your team feels as if they have a safe place to express their opinions and share their ideas is vital when creating that collaborative team dynamic.
