Are these statements correct?

  • Cell potential is a way to measure the amount of energy needed to move a certain electric charge between electrodes, when a galvanic cell has a voltage, it is an indication that the system is out of equilibrium. A redox reaction is constantly approaching equilibrium, as the reaction continues, electrons flow within the cell. This causes a change in the ion concentration and thus a change in the system. When the change pushes the system farther away from equilibrium, the cell potential increases. When the change pushes the system closer to equilibrium, the cell potential will decrease.
  • Voltage from an electrochemical cell is an indication that the system is out of equilibrium because at equilibrium, the voltage becomes zero and the cell stops working. Changing the concentration of the electrolytes will act like changing the products and reactants, therefore a change in concentration will affect the cell potential of the galvanic cell.
