In the continually-changing landscape of health care delivery, nurse leaders face multiple and complex challenges as they strive for positive health outcomes for patients and populations served.  Drawing upon a grand theory can allow the advance practice nurse to construct strategies to influence health outcomes which align with the core values and concepts which are central to the nursing profession.  As you prepare for this first TD, consider a grand theory which aligns with your personal philosophy of nursing, then respond to the following:

Select a grand nursing theory. Explain how application of this theory by nurse leaders and nurse managers can influence outcomes from two of the following areas.

  • Organizational operations
  • Patient satisfaction scores
  • Patient-care delivery
  • Workflow redesign

How might nurse leaders integrate grand theories in such a way that they are woven into the decision-making and planned change processes needed to improve health outcomes?  How might this theory be evidenced in day-to-day operations?
