Suppose two hot dog stores, A and B, position themselves at different ends of a 1000 meters stretch of beach. Assume there are 100 beach goers evenly distributed along the stretch of beach and travel costs are $0.01 per meter. Each consumer will buy exactly one hot dog, regardless of price. Store A charges $1 for its hot dogs and B charges $2 for its hot dogs. The stores face the same cost of $0.5/hot dog.

a. Calculate how many consumers will go to stores A and B, respectively, and the profit for each store.

b. How does the change of transportation costs affect product differentiation and profits of the two stores? Explain.
