Task: Guided Reflection. Reflect on/react to Haben's "One L, Only Harder," and "Disability Is Rarely the Barrier" (both of which can be found in the Week 3 Module folder) in 500 words or more. Use the following questions to help guide your writing. After you answer these five questions, if you still do not have 500 words, you can finish out the task by reacting to the texts in any way you would like. Be sure to type out your response on a separate Microsoft Word document.
Question 1. Discuss the challenges Haben faced as she navigated law school as a woman who is both blind and deaf.
Question 2. Haben got to meet Barack Obama while he was the president in the White House's Green Room. That photo is pictured in Haben's memoir and also pictured below. Take a few minutes to take a closer look at the photo. What do you notice about the photo? What sticks out to you? Analyze things such as the body language and facial expressions of the people in the photo, both individually, and in relation to each other. Describe and analyze what you notice.
Question 3. Discuss the following quote that Haben wrote in her memoir: "People with disabilities get called inspiring so often, usually for the most insignificant things, that the word now feels like a euphemism for pity. Sometimes when a nondisabled person uses the word to describe a person with a disability, it's a sign that they're feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable."
Question 4. Consider the following quote: "Throughout my three years at Harvard Law School, I continue to face challenges. The school doesn't know exactly which accommodations I need. Neither do I - doing law school Deafblind is new to me, too." What does this quote mean to you? Connect it back to the documentary Crip Camp and my two video lectures that you should be finished watching by now. Specifically, how does this quote show that while much progress for people with other-abilities has been made, there is much work still left to do?
Question 5. After reading "Disability Is Rarely the Barrier," what is your reaction to that text? Did you find any part of it interesting or surprising? How so?
