Imagine you are a female, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and one of your responsibilities on your shift is to bathe Mr. Davis, an 87 year old, male patient. When you go into the patient room to bathe Mr. Davis, he refuses. You notice in his chart that he has refused the last three bathings. Concerned for his health, you kindly, and patiently ask Mr. Davis why he is refusing the service. He shares that he grew up in Sudan, and that he is a devout Muslim. After hearing this, you look at his patient chart again, and notice that the three other baths were to be performed by other female CNA's. You begin to suspect, that due to cultural and religious reasons, Mr. Davis may not be comfortable with a female CNA providing that particular service, even though it is not noted in his chart, and he has not directly said this to you.

Communicate with Mr. Davis to obtain a clear understanding as to why he is declining his care.
