Cephalosporins are a group of antibiotics that inhibit cross linking of new peptidoglycan molecules into the cell wall. Say you have two patients with different infections: one with a "staph" infection (infection with Staphylococcus aureus, a gram positive bacterium) and one with a urinary tract infection (infection with E. coli, a gram negative bacterium).
