The manufacturing revolution of the early 20th Century involved long production lines with repetitive steps (e.g., assembly of an automobile). In turn, workers needed a level of literacy that previously was unimaginable and presented a startling disjunction from the ages old apprentice style of training. To meet the demands of industry, education was challenged to start producing workers who could read, write, and do basic arithmetic. This approach mirrored the manufacturing process. However, by the 21st Century the developed countries needed "knowledge workers" with new knowledge, skills, and abilities. Where does HPI fit?
