The case management concept that has been most impactful to me is advocacy. Essentially, advocacy is centered on fostering patient autonomy, empowerment, and independence (Hawkins et al., 1998, as cited in Tahan, 2016). Advocacy ensures that patients receive the services and resources they need. This can involve negotiating with service providers, helping patients understand their rights and assisting in the appeal process if services are denied. Advocacy helps patients to make informed decisions concerning their health. Clients may face complex systems such as healthcare, insurance, and social services. Through advocacy, CMs help patients navigate these systems, ensuring that they receive the necessary services and support they need. Advocacy also helps support patients in making ethical decisions. When I successfully advocate for my patients, I work to promote healing and restoration and I help foster trust in the healthcare team. When patients feel that they can trust their healthcare team they are likely to open up about their concerns and be more compliant with treatment plans, thus promoting better outcomes for them. CMs often work with vulnerable populations who may not have the ability or knowledge to advocate for themselves. Advocacy ensures that their patients'.
