Most recent estimates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) show that 142 Americans die daily from a drug overdose, which calls for bolder actions to stop drug misuse and abuse. While the beginning of the opioid addiction crisis started as a prescription for pain, the pain that has resulted from the opioid epidemic today is unmatched. By comparison, deaths from drug overdoses currently exceed deaths caused by car crashes and gun homicides combined. In fact, over 560,000 reported deaths between 1999 and 2015 were caused by an equivalence or excess of an entire state such as Atlanta (Yap, 2016).
