Ava Jones has been employed in your department for six years. During her tenure she has been a valuable employee, although during the past two years you've observed a drop in her work performance due to tardiness and absenteeism. The whole department is aware that Ava is facing many problems at home, and her co-workers have covered for her and even completed work for her when necessary, but they are beginning to complain. You decided to take the following actions:

1. You set up a one-on-one meeting and she admits that she is having problems at home;

2. You offer her a week of sick leave to deal with the problem (according to the company's policies and procedures recommended time to deal with personal situations causing stress and underperformance in the workplace);

3. You refer her to a counsellor;

4. You reassure her that her problems will not be shared with other employees.
