Question

For my project I would like to research Northern Spotted Owls (trix occidentalis caurina). They are in the Strigidae family and Strigiformes order. I chose this bird because I just took systematics of birds and my professor mentioned several times how quickly these owls are declining and how it is causing major problems in certain ecosystems. However, we never got to talk much about it so I would love the opportunity to do further research on why their populations are declining, as well as why they are declining so quickly. I do know that much of their habit is being taken away and that there are many ongoing efforts to protect land that is important to spotted owl populations. They are currently listed as threatened under the endangered species act. I would also like to research this species because I have always been fascinated by birds, more specifically owls.
