Research paper topics are attached to this course outline below and students will be required to choose and write on one of the topics. The paper may be shorter provided the question is answered sufficiently well. If the paper is longer than the maximum length, only the first 5 pages will begat.. The paper must answer a question, providing an argument (based on evidence from research materials) to substantiate the answer given. All papers must begin with a brief introduction putting the question in its historical and institutional context, a thesis statement, and a set of definitions and descriptions of the key terms, a main body, and a conclusion. For more information on essay writing, consult books in the library dealing with the subject-matter. Do not slide papers under my office door. Papers later than 3 days after the deadline will not he accepted. Please use the CHICAGO or TURABIAN style of documentation. (ie footnotes or endnotes are acceptable). The bibliography should include at least 5 academic/scholarly items (books and articles from academic/professional refereed periodicals). Internet sources may be used in addition to academic books and articles but not as a substitute for them. Where internet sources are used, it web address should be provided. Any paper which contains evidence of deliberate plagiarism will automatically receive a mark of 0.
