Main Cause(s): The main cause of violent crimes in Philadelphia is due to poverty.

Evidence: Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner says it's a "vicious cycle." "Poverty causes crime and crime causes poverty," said Krasner, long a critic of the criminal justice system. "The system will take relatively minor offenses, turn them into criminal convictions." Unable to afford expensive legal representation, the poor, when they find themselves in need of legal defense, usually have no other recourse than to secure a public defender, Krasner said. And oftentimes after a young man is convicted and serves his time, he now has the added burden on a felony on his record. The system, Krasner said, ensures "that a young man is never going to be employed. That is going to cause poverty."

Annotation: This text helps support my evidence. It explains how lack of schooling, programs, food and housing can cause someone to act in a violent way. This also causes a ruffle affect. It is no help being low income but when you act out and begin to do illegal activities then you will never have a chance to undo the hurt and the pain that you have caused your family and the family of someone else. Most likely your decisions will put you behind bars or in a grave yard.

Effects of Problem: The effects of. this problem is that children are scared to go outside and play. People are just not safe anymore and the city needs help.
