Scenario:
Sherritt International is one of the world's largest producers of nickel from lateritic sources and has operations and investments in Canada and Cuba. A key commitment identified in Sherritt's strategic plan includes a commitment to sustainability (Sherritt, 2021).
As a member of the training and development unit in Sherritt's human resources department, you are tasked with designing a training program focused on Sherritt's Sustainability Framework, and specifically, "Providing a Safe and Rewarding Workplace" (Sherritt, 2021). This initiative will start with the Fort Saskatchewan plant in Alberta, Canada and then will be implemented in Cuba.
The staff at the Fort Saskatchewan plant are mostly native Canadians averaging 36 years of age, with a gender ration of 3:1 male to female.
Cuba is one of the last remaining socialist countries and the economy is largely state-controlled. All hiring is done by state-controlled employment agencies (Human Rights Watch, 1999) and the infrastructure in Cuba is very different from that seen in Sherritt's Canadian operations.
Question: You know you need to make revisions to the Canadian training program for effective implementation in Cuba. Describe what you need to consider related to design and what process(es) and/or method(s) you will use to guide this work. Be sure to provide rationale to support your response.
