Sun Shine Hotel
Sarah, the catering manager at Sunshine hotel is 29-years old. She is responsible for managing and supervising all employees whose age ranges from 16 to 55 years in the back of the house. Sunshine hotel's employees come from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds where English is not the main language for them.
Sarah is a certified food safety issues so she is always a perfectionist in keeping the food safety, cleanliness and delivery at the best. This is not easy, Sarah tries to keep on giving her staff "on the job training" explaining and applying all food safety measures (temperature, cleanliness, hygiene, fastness in delivery...). Sarah is on continuous trial of improving her employees but the high percentage of their turnover makes her rush in some of the trainings as well as some employees are put on the hotel's schedule without training in high seasons or busy days. The hotel's owners are very satisfied with Sarah's work and efforts. They support her in every training or employees' development strategy she sets because they are aware that they might be out of business if the safety issues are messed up.
One day Sarah arrived late due to some issues in her car, that day was not her day where she was surprised when she entered the kitchen that some fish trays sitting out in the kitchen area. From the smell she realized that they were at room temperature for quite
some time. Sarah got really frustrated she didn't know what to do. She realized even the posters all over the kitchen "Keep food hot", "Don't keep trays in room temperature", "Always and often wash your hands" were not understood properly.
She took the decision after that to give each and every employee a thermometer to always check the food's temperature, soap, paper towel bags to keep their hands clean as well as replace the words in the poster by pictures so that everyone understands.
Discussion Questions:

3. What are some ways Sarah may use to lessen the issues she may face (think in organizational structural issues as well as communication skills)?
