Promotion at Al-Noor Foundation
Al-Noor Foundation for Community Development and Capacity Building was established in early 1985 to create an incubating environment for youth energies, discover their potentials, and work on developing supportive programs that exploit these energies. At present, (450) employees and trainers work in this organization. Since its establishment, the institution follows a system of seniority in promotion, and sometimes it takes a system of seniority and performance. When the job of a supervisor in one of the departments of the organization became vacant, the Human Resources Department began to search for a suitable person to promote him to this position.
The thought was that a supervisor's assistant would be promoted to become a supervisor, and the current belief among the employees was that Mr. Fahd, being the oldest assistant, has the right to promote this Occupation. However, the Human Resources Department overtook him and preferred Mr. Hassan, who is younger and has shorter service than Fahd, and the upper management's decision was made to promote Hassan.
Fahd is about 50 years old, holds a high school certificate, and has been working for the organization for about 22 years. He also worked as a supervisor assistant for 13 consecutive years. He is distinguished by integrity and interest in his work. He has a strong personality and depends on himself. He is loved by management and employees, but he is slow. At work, about a year ago Fahd was given the opportunity to hold the position of acting supervisor for a month while the original supervisor was on vacation. It became clear to the management of the organization that his work as a supervisor was not at the required level, and there is no doubt that the low level of his culture and education prevented him from carrying out the administrative work required in the supervisor's position.
As for Hassan, he is 34 years old, graduated from the College of Administration in an Arab university, and has been working for the institution for about 10 years, and as a supervisor assistant in the same department for about 6 years, and he has a great aspect of intelligence and culture, and he had the opportunity to attend several training courses in the field of Management and supervision, and all reports indicate his efficiency, and he has an attractive and convincing style in understanding with all people and winning their friendship.
Most of the workers were surprised when they heard about Hassan's promotion to this position, and this procedure had a very bad effect on Fahd as he was expecting this promotion because of his seniority. As soon as he heard of the decision, he went directly to the Director of the Human Resources Department and threatened to resign if the situation will not be corrected. The HR manager tried to calm his anger and persuade him not to quit . In fact, Fahd has a lot of experience in community work and training because of his long service in the company in this field, and there is no doubt that the company may face great difficulty in finding another person to replace him if he actually leaves work.
