Macro Practice Pespective
Kirst-Ashman (et al., 2018) explain that there are micro, mezzo, and macro assessments and that they are all intimately intertwined together. When assessing in the micro practice perspective, it does help with evaluating areas that are directly related to the client that you are working with, but when necessary services are not readily available to the client within the community in which they are a part of, I believe that macro practice perspective is the best assessment tool to use because it is not merely helping on an individual scale, but it helps the entire community by combating inequities within the system itself (Kirst-Ashman, Hull Jr., 2018).
The reason why I would use this tool is because I want to not only facilitate changes within the individuals clients life, but I want to influence changes within the community that they live in as well. Fleming-Castaldy (2015) explains that a client-centered approach can be constrained by social, political, and inequities. She also explains that stigmas as well as poverty can hinder the achievement of client-centered goals (Fleming-Castaldy, 2015). Trying to promote change within the client's community as concerns current and potential resources can help the client and future clients as well.
The use of macro assessment could help the social worker understand the needs of their clients more accurately as well as help them become more familiar cultural issues and values that are important to the communities that their clients exist within (2018). When working on a macro level, it involves getting to know the people and the as well as the resources that are available within the community. From there, you can identify the strengths and weaknesses of the community and focus on getting the needed resources for them as well as gathering other information that can help future clients as well.
