Case Study - Labour Relations LUCKY RESORT AND STAFF WORKERS UNION (based on SEM and BCGEU, 2013)

The union has applied to represent a group of workers at a facility that includes a hotel, a golf course, a casino, and four restaurants. The proposed bargaining unit includes cashiers, guest services representatives, front desk attendants, slot machine attendants, casino dealers, and housekeepers. The employer has opposed the application, arguing that the proposed bargaining unit is not appropriate for collective bargaining and that it ought to include other employees. A certification vote has been held, but the ballots will not be counted until the issue of the appropriate bargaining unit has been resolved.
