Case Study: Jada
Jada, age 25, worked part-time as a librarian. She was driving to work one day when she began to feel intensely anxious. Her heart started pounding and she began sweating, had shortness of breath, felt dizzy and shaky, and felt like she was about to die. She pulled off to the side of the road and recovered after about 10 minutes. Jada drove on to work and was able to function that day, but experienced similar incidents over the next couple of weeks. For the next few months, she was persistently worried about having more attacks and became increasingly anxious about having another attack while she was driving alone with no one to help her. She began avoiding driving, and she even began to fear leaving her house alone.
Jada sought counseling at an outpatient counseling center and was administered the Symptom Checklist 90-Revised (SCL-90-R) during her initial assessment. Review Jada's SCL-90-R Clinical Profile and answer the questions that follow.
