Case Study B Wow Events Ltd
Wow Events Ltd is an events company that plans and organises medium to large-size music festivals across Australia.
One of the company's office staff, Martin, has had a disagreement with Sandra, the head of locations and facilities. Martin believes that the festivals are not inclusive enough and that facilities, entry, and seating at venues make it impossible for the elderly or less mobile to attend. He has explained that his upbringing and personal values put a lot of emphasis on respecting and assisting the elderly and those with restricted mobility in the community. He has stated that he is not happy working for a company that doesn't respect these values, and that he will leave if this issue is not resolved.
Specifically, Martin wants to see separate queues for the elderly and less mobile, as well as more seating around the venue and more disabled toilets.
Sandra argues that the festivals do not attract enough interest from the elderly and less mobile to warrant making the changes he suggests. While she agrees that respect for the elderly in the community is important, she believes that music festivals are for the young and energetic, and that making the proposed changes would only raise costs and reduce profits for no discernible benefit.
As the manager of Wow Events Ltd, it is your duty to talk to both Martin and Sandra in order to resolve the situation. With respect for differences in personal values and beliefs, what would you say to them try to resolve the situation, and to improve the quality of their professional relationship going forward?
Explain how you would approach the situation.
