TASK BRIEF CASE: Fast One2 Ltd.
QUESTIONS:
You are the new HRM that joined Fast One 2 months ago. Fast One2 is a logistics operator specialized in logistics and transportation based in Germany and operating in all Europe, with operational hubs in most of the EEC countries.
Once you met the CEO he explained to you that he was concerned about the employee turnover in all the company, being employee turnover much higher in Fast One2 that in the logistics industry. Employee turnover was especially high between the motorbike drivers taking care of the last mile delivery.During the last Management Meeting, the Operations Director was asking for more training for his team since they should be able to catch up with the new technologies to be up to dated. The CEO was reluctant to provide the funds because the company results were not good enough, and he was afraid about the possibility that employees, once they were trained, might leave the company.
In the headquarters, employee turnover was specially affecting middle management, after a few days, you realized that it was taking too much time and too much money to replace those key managers, and, at the same time, many of those quit a few months after they joined the company. Everybody used to say that the logistics industry was a tough one.One additional issue that was worrying the CEO is that Eva, the Marketing Manager (who reports to the Sales Director), a key position in Fast One2, took the decision to leave the company in brief, no one was expecting Eva to leave. By the way the company was going to propose a promotion for her in brief. Eva told the HRM 'I was happy in Fast One, but I began to be bored with my current job and needed more challenges. If I had known about my possible promotion, of course I would have stayed, but now it's too late'.
1. The company has a problem with the motorbike drivers' turnover. Explain in detail all the different actions you will be taking to reduce the turnover, explaining why they are appropriate.
2. To help the Operations Director to overcome the different problems related to the operations' team lack of training you must write down an action plan that will be presented to the Steering Committee.Write a detailed plan using theory to reason the proposed actions.
3. The CEO was really worried about the way in which they lost EVA, the Marketing Manager. 'This time we lost the Marketing Manager, the CEO said, but next time it might be the Sales Manager, or the Finance Manager, I want to prevent those problems to happen again in the future'.Prepare a full report to identify, from a HRM standpoint, the reasons of losing EVA, what procedures or mechanisms failed, and prepare a detailed plan to prevent those situations to happen again
