Question: Once upon a time the people of Kileleni community had an unusual experience. On every market day a number of people broke their legs as they walked to the marketplace. This was quite a worrying phenomenon as nobody was spared men and women, youth, and children. 2 A group of young religious students in the vicinity met to discuss the problem. Their analysis revealed that people tripped and fell down whenever they slipped on banana peels thrown on the footpaths by the teeming crowds walking to and from the marketplace. The youth group organised other young people in the area to address the problem. They collected funds from well wishers to assist the victims by paying for their medical bills and supplying their families with the food they needed whenever their bread earners were hospitalised. They also offered to pay for the school fees of the children from the affected families. However, after a while, the youth decided that what they were doing was not enough. They decided to address the root causes of the problem. As a result, a duty rooster was drawn up by the youth to be lining-up in turns along the paths on every market day. The idea was to pick up the banana peels whenever they were thrown on the paths, before anybody stepped on them to become yet another victim. This they did with great zeal and effectiveness, but only during school holidays, as they had to go back to school after the holidays.
