The world's Religions By Huston Smith

50th Anniversary Edition Book

Someone wrote four page of essay

Buddhism challenges many assumptions about what a religion is. As we have seen, it is silent on the question of God's existence, based on the idea that human beings do not have a soul or self, and rejects tradition and the idea of having "sacred books." With all of this in mind, should Buddhism be considered a religion? Can you have a religion without the concept of a soul? What is the soul? What exactly is a religion? Does it require a belief in the divine? If so, what is the divine? Do religions need books and words of guidance? If so, why? Feel free to take aim at these questions as best you can.
