Case: You work as an inventor for a company, but after hours you have created a widget that you think might change the world. At this situation, I think depends on which widget I created. If it related to the project I working on at company, that should belongs to my company. But if this widget is about other things, it should belongs to myself. I used my own time to invented. I should own the patent because I am the inventor. I should apply the patent and it will has 20 years protections. If my company wants to use my invention, they need to deal with me.
