James Cameron is charged that on or about the 29th day of May, 2016, at or near Airdrie, Alberta committing an assault on Carl Jepson cause bodily harm to him contrary to Section 267(b) of the Criminal Code.

Can the police charge Cameron with both assault-causing bodily harm, and common assault for the same altercation? Please explain you answer.
